New Arts & Cultural Community Organization Established in Smyrna

In November 2014 the implementation plans from the Smyrna Vision initiative were published. One of the “Quality of Place” recommendations was that Smyrna elevate opportunities for experiencing arts and culture.

Work began shortly afterwards to establish a volunteer group who would support the arts and promote cultural endeavors.  The first meeting was held in March.

Tonight at Browner Hall 25 members from the community assembled and began the formal process of creating the Smyrna Arts & Cultural Council.

Tonight’s business included:

1) Selecting the organization’s name
2) Capturing recommendations for a “Mission Statement” and defining the next steps to complete it
3) Discussing the next steps in completing the legal work to setup a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation
4) Discussing a the status of local cultural venues and planning for a proposed Jazz concert
5) Selecting the name of the website URL (www.SmyrnaACC.org) to register
6) Authorizing the creation of a website, Facebook Page, Twitter Account and Blog.
